this debut offering from the groove corporation explores dub basslines, jazz chords, hip-hop vocals and dance rhythms. it's one of the most unusual fusions i have heard for some time, yet it gels together in a surprisingly clean and sophisticated way.

musically speaking, you get a lot for your money here. with 12 consistently listenable tracks, this album spells quality as well as quantity. 'showtime' welcomes the listener to the album, with anthemic diva-style vocals and a mercilessly funky beat. this is intelligently followed by a dubby track with male vocals which is equally strong.

after hearing this album a couple of times, i would suggest that most of these songs would make excellent singles. they take old elements and bring them hurtling into the 90s with excellent production and beautiful, trancey noises and effects. there are echoes of galliano and massive attack, plus countless other influences, but the groove corporation already have their own sound and are definitely going their own way.
