Conceived, structured and spiritually led by jovial percussionist Bonjo I, AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE emerged from 'A Hole In The Ground' in the glorious days of 1981 to record their debut for Adrian Sherwood's blossoming On U Sound label. Entertaining but at the same time serious, provocative head/body music, Bonjo and the On- U crew had created a raw yet very exquisite sound.

Thankfully they didn't crawl back into the hole and remained on the surface to develop the HEAD CHARGE myth. Three further albums 'Environmental Studies', 'Drastic Season' and 'Off The Beaten Track' followed to establish themselves as On U's most popular act with a sound that drew from many interests, yet compared to none. It was only at this stage that the show went on the road & Bonjo proved that HEAD CHARGE could pack the same punch live as they could in the studio. The live shows proved so successful that it was a long and fretful wait until their last studio work 'Songs Of Praise' was released to an eager world. The myth was propelled.

Three years later and On U Sound are extremely proud to present 'IN PURSUIT OF SHASHAMANE LAND', AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE's latest masterpiece that will undoubtedly fuel the hunger of all devotees. In the true tradition, as with the live 'events', the sound has progressed, yet maintains all the distinctive qualities that are AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE. A finely honed blend of spiritual and tribal hard hitting rhythms that will move you and leave you craving for more.
